OBITUARY:Ann Leeiwenburg (Wissbaum)
Mrs. Ann Wissbaum, 88, passed away Monday, May 8, 2023. She was born April 11, 1935 in Wilmington, NC, the daughter of the late John R. and Marguerite S. Lane.
Ann was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and cherished spending time with family and friends. She lived a life filled with gratitude, even during her most difficult days. Ann was active in the Church during her younger years and found much joy in teaching Sunday school to the children. She enjoyed crafts and shared her talent of making Chrismon ornaments with many friends. Ann was always ready to play a card or board game and, although she wanted everyone to have a winning game, she was most often the winner. She took pleasure in preparing Sunday dinners, family beach trips and celebrating birthdays and holidays.
Ann’s late husband, Jack, always left notes for her when he left the house, often professing his love for her. One note in particular was touching because Ann had asked him what people would say about her when she passed. A section of Jack’s note read as follows: “She was a true believer and served him in his house and outside of his house with kindness and thoughtfulness. Ann almost single-handedly raised three wonderful children who to this day love her without limits. She was the best wife a man could possibly hope for and I too, love you without limits.”
Ann is survived by her children, Michael Wissbaum and his wife Barbara, Catherine Wissbaum, and Alan Ross and his wife Monica, grandchildren, Brandon Wissbaum and his wife Kristen, and Alexa Gleason, and great grandson, Jason Wissbaum.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John D. Wissbaum, her sister, Peggy Dooley, and brothers, Edward Lane and Rodney Lane.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Matthews Presbyterian Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am. Condolences may be shared at www.heritagecares.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Matthews Presbyterian Church, 207 W. John Street, Matthews, NC 28105, or to a charity of your choice.
